Tartan and Roses

So my friend Miriam and I are taking the #StampingDiversity challenge and running with it! We’d love to see your creations for alternative holidays and occasions that aren’t normally represented in the pages of catalogues and the shelves of stores.

Today I’ve made a card for Robbie Burns Day. For those not familiar with Scottish history, Robert Burns was a Scottish poet who is now celebrated on January 25th by the playing of pipes, reading of poetry, drinking of scotch, and the eating of haggis.

While I wasn’t able to perfectly replicate the Burns tartan, I was able to take some inspiration from it for my background. I used markers on the Buffalo Check stamp to add some variety and color. I added a watercolored bunch of roses to reference his poetry and imagery often associated with his works, and finally a sweet saying for the recipient.
